Kant's Definition of the Aesthetic
Schiller is pivoting off of Kant's definition of the aesthetic, which involves a disinterested grasp of certain objects. The example I brought up again and again in this podcast is seeing an apple and thinking, Oh, that would be nice to eat. And then on the other hand, thinking, Oh,. that's beautiful, which does not mean I want to do anything with that object. But it involves some other puzzling relationship to the object, which Kant ends up in the third critique.
