Pakistan and Sri Lanka are both basket cases economically speaking. China has spent a great deal of money and they have received very little in exchange for it, says Peter Bergen. A lot of what I think was driving the BRI was not even it was not Chinese foreign policy said Bergen. The result is something that neither serves the economic interests of the receiving country or those of China.
