There's an interesting parallel between optimism and action and pessimism and inaction. People who are naturally lazy or perhaps just don't want to do very much might gravitate towards a philosophy which allows them to justify that. If you take an optimistic outlook that problems can be solved but you actually have to go out there and do it, then that encourages action.
