What Are the Differences Between Monastic and Cathedral Singers?

In the early period there were singers in cathedral choirs that just say singers who had actual prebends and were paid singers with positions. This really starts in the 12th century that they start to have endowed positions for choir boys. They already are starting to live with the choir master, with their teacher essentially, in some part of the cathedral close. The way in which the divine office is structured in a cathedral or a collegiate church is somewhat different from a monastery. So this would account for certain kind of differences in their performance.
