In a dictatorship, you don't have that option. Your chance of winning in an opposition election is a lot more than your chances of successfully staging a coup. And if they do win, they're very unlikely to make systemic change. I think it's very, very risky to run a system without the safety valve of like, an opposition party. You've just re invented democracy. But sometimes it actually does work. Every now and then it does work.
