The Slash of Dia Go Velasquez

Suffragette activist mary rally richison slashed a painting by dia go velasquez in 1914 as an act of protest against the imprisonment of emeline pankhurst. The attack has stayed with people thinking about that attack as a frenzied attack on an artwork when in fact it was planned so that she would be able to physically damage the artwork between guard shifts at the time. In terms of how acts of iconoclasm are are portrayed and remembered it tends to be in a sensational way, says author David Walliams.
