Kasparov - Is He the Next Challenger?

In 1987, Carpov was spared going through all the interzontals and qualifications for among other candidates. In early 1990, three years later, he also didn't have to go for interzone tournaments. So you can say that he was privileged as the excitable holder in all of these matches. He didn't really have to go through the usual cycle,. But given how often they played and how many of those games were played, then year after year after year, they played against each other. This was just like a war of attrition.
