Alastair Darden explains why Japan's goal on Thursday was legal and valid. The laws of the game say that the ball is out of play when it has whole history. So, let's talk about what that means in terms of that Japan goal. It is all about the angle that we saw on the television pictures. As I made a short video on Twitter last night to demonstrate how the ball looks like it's gone over the line from the side. When you move directly above the ball, although no part of it is touching the line, the curve of the ball is over the line. So, it is in play still. My maths teacher always told me geometry would be useful
