The History of Orford Castle
Orford Castle was built to deal with a genuine situation. Henry II's relationship with the big old family was pretty terrible. Since it actually faces across the North Sea, that's a coast where landings might be expected. Even in peacetime, it didn't do anything terribly grand. It probably only ever saw one royal visit in 1277,. Edward I, making a tour of East Anglia and going to the Shrine of Wall Signum.
