The Fat Man: A New Orleans Recording
This is the record that crystallized the New Orleans sound, and became the template all the others would follow. It's a song about unrequited love or lust, a teenager's song of yearning. And then to top it off, there's the sax solo by Herb Hardesty, the prototype for the solos he would provide for all Domino's hits from this point on. Dave Bartholomew stopped working for specialty shortly after the recording of Lordy Miss Clordy. Lou Chud compared it to the records Art Young was producing for Fats Domino and realised that he could be doing a hell of a lot better than he was.
