John Ruskin was a much keener and a much more small D Democratic thinker than Carlisle. Edward Arnold, the founding editor of Plow, wrote an essay The Fight Against Mammon in 1924. He wasn't trying to recover this early Christian communism for the 20th century. But he said violent revolution is not going to cut it.
