The Russian Revolution of 19 O Six

The fruits of the revolution were not looking so ripe after all. The new duma found itself operating in a strait jacket. Workers had gone out on strike expecting better conditions. Peasants who believed the days of landlords were over. Women who hoped they might be treated as equals. Minority nationalities who wanted autonomy, freedom and respect. Conservatives, liberals, socialists, neurotists, anarchists, reactionaries. None of them were happy whether they thought things had gone too far or things had not gone far enough. And so the revolution of 19 o five would not be the russian revolution. It would instead go down in history as merely the dress rehearsal for the Russian revolution.
