The Role of Land Managers in the Eastern Sierra
The Bodie Hills and Hot Creek mining projects are on forest service land. Because the conglomerate Mesa project is on BLM land, things work a little differently. A cyanide spill here would be disastrous for both residents of the Eastern Sierra and LA. In all three instances, local land managers are finding their hands tied by federal legislation written long ago.
