Syncretism Between Catholicism and Indigenous Practices in Mexico
The book is set right after the mexican war for independence. Why set this in that time period? It's a period of immense change, and it's a period in which we see the seeds and saplings of many conflicts that persist. And another thing that drew me to this period was the syncretism between catholicism as it came from the continent and indigenous practices and traditions in mexico. We see this continuing to the present.
