There are aspects of these critiques that absolutely make sense. Scientists defend their own views like most people do. One of the great things about science is that, even though scientists will defend their views for a long time, once an obviously more valid view comes along, they will change their minds. It's easiest to do when the new view is backed up by an experiment, by data. But even a really knocked down theoretical argument will convince people to change their mind.
