Betty Boothroyd, First Woman Speaker in 700 Years of the Institution
Betty Boothroyd died today at the age of 93. The first woman speaker, she rose up through the Labour Party. She was an incredibly popular figure on back benches of both parties. In her later years, in her late 80s, early 90s, she became a very impassioned figure and campaigner against Brexit. Just listen to this clip: My concern is about young people. I have no children.
