The Story of Pike and the Spanish

On June 30th, 1807, almost a year since departing from St. Louis, Pike and six of his men crossed the Subine River into the United States. In a lot of ways, the Spanish would let him become the ultimate spy. They took him not just to Santa Fe, but to El Paso and then Chihuahua and all through northern Mexico, and then Texas. No spy could have dreamed of being given more access than he had been granted.
