Is the Court Responsible for the Protection of Human Rights?
The main story of human rights is not in courtrooms, but at the desk of policy and decision-makers. PLP wants to do our part to ensure that the state acts lawfully and fairly. The Human Rights Act gives us the ability to argue for redress on behalf of our beneficiaries and clients in the court. But what the Bill of Rights does is it weakens our client's position in three ways. It prevents British courts from providing more expansive interpretations of rights than Strasbourg provided.
