A lot of policymakers read this book and I think adopted the conflation that the book is making. Many, many, many policies would be effective at reducing crime, but that does not mean they are the right policy. The main thing to know about Levitt's work on this is that it doesn't hold up. People have found coding errors in it. There's like mistakes in the data.
