What Is a Covenante?

A lot of people get very upset when people say bitcoin doesn't have smart contracts. Covenants are a term that comes from the traditional legal system. The term covenant itself isr loaded because it has a history in, like, real estate transactions. There are covenants that are used all the time and they're not sorted by technology.
