The Importance of Housing in the Economy

Houses are sometimes considered capital, but they aren't really. Shuffling around blocks of land and prescribing even higher values to them does not produce anything of value. It is paper wealth at its purest form. No great economy was ever built by shuffling around piles of dirt. Taking on debt to invest into something that doesn't produce anything is almost always a bad idea on a macroeconomic level.
