The Paradox of the Federalist Papers
The Federalist Papers are written so deeply into our constitutional law. We played an enormous role in the lives of Harry Truman, certainly Lyndon Johnson and now we see almost nothing. I don't think that we can escape the impress of the classical ideas, even if we're not aware of them. And if I had to say that there was one great American innovation that when we are all gone ... it will be the idea of putting the state under law.
