What Should We Ask for in Prayer?
The big question is, what should we ask for in prayer? If god wants to give us good things through our prayer, how do we know what they are? And i think this question really occupied saint thomas's mind. In an article five of the question on prayer in suma, he asks whether we ought to ask for determinate things from god when we pray. So now thet've got some of the basic dynamics of prayer and divine providence down. It seems pretty safe to ask god for help or for good things. But should we ask god for specific things? if you're having a barbecue for columbus day? Should you ask god to provide good weather?
