The Importance of a Congregational Mosque

Kumar suggests that the target audience of the koronic verses in friday mosques were not hindus, but moslems. The purpose behind engraving pious verses was simply a means to project the patron of a given mosque as more faithful or more religious than other patrons elsewhere in the sub continent. Intregingly enough, there are some dev nuggery inscriptions in the compound as well, which were left surreptitiously by the hindu artisans. Some of these divnagri inscriptions actually celebrate the monument as the sultan's pillar of victory.
