Prohibition is the name for a period between 1920 and 1933 when the United States banned the manufacturing, importation, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages. Humans have been drinking alcoholic beverages since prehistoric times. In the 19th century, various groups of Protestants began opposing the consumption of alcohol. They ultimately determined to pass a constitutional amendment that would prohibit alcoholic beverages nationwide.
