To negate things of god, like to say, god is not good in the way of my new pair of shoes is good, means that i already have some knowledge of god as good. So negations build out of af ations, or require affirmations. And even if i say the phoenix does not exist, there is no such thing as a phoenix, that presupposes i already have positive knowledge of reality. What i'm arguing here is that aquinas is not quite the agnostic that circulaong thinks he is. It's clear that there is really a kind of ade apothaticism in aquinas. He does think that our knowledge of god by philosophy
