Why Does Matthew Include Women in the Genealogy?

The four women in Matthew's genealogy are Tamar, Ruth, Rahab and the wife of Uriah. The fact that these particular women are included is "particularly interesting," says John Sutter. Some people have said why does Matthew include these women is to make the point that there are women of doubtful virtue who are included in the genealogical line to the Messiah? This provides some backdrop to say, 'Well, if God is full of surprises,' he adds.
