The Importance of Keeping a Connection With a Caller
A woman called 000 and said she was going to shoot herself with her ex-husband's rifle. Paramedics were already on the scene, they had assessed her face-to-face before calling for an ambulance. The caller made a number of other statements including that she'd taken some Valium which led them to call 000 again. They then rang local hospital who confirmed there was no firearm in the house. A mental health worker read through notes from previous calls about suicide attempts or alcohol related seizures as part of their investigation into the incident. She found out this person had been discharged against medical advice just the day before.
