Lazarus had lain in the grave four days already. According to Jewish tradition, the spirit might linger a little longer. The difference with Jairus' daughter is she had just died. And Jesus, it's almost kind of a momentary sleep and then a quick resuscitation. But not in Lazarus' case. He is fully, completely, permanently, hopelessly dead. Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him. But Mary sat still in the house. Here we see similar differences. It's amazing. Both were serving when there was no other option.
