The Different Types of Military Service
At the top of that pyramid is a lord, an aristocrat or a knight. That vassal receives land in exchange for military service. It was an oath of fealty where they knelt before and placed their hands together like this. The king would place his hands around those kind of praying hands as a representation of his protection.
