What Didn't Work?
Imitating other writers is a good way to notice the differences between your natural setting and somebody else's natural setting. What you can't do if slavishly imitate people you feel are amazing, that's what i was doing. I want to be a carbon copy of james joyce or david foster wallace, or whoever. That was the problem, like abnegation. Everything i was doing stylistically was trying to be less like me.
