The NC-17 Movie Rating: A Failure
The MPAA could not qualitatively explain what made an NC-17 film different from an X-rated film. The market for candid adult product is limited, and unlikely to expand no matter what Hollywood calls the rating it gives such films. Jack Valenti said he wasn't worried about this happening more than a few times because "the hardcore porn movie business is virtually extinct"
