The Importance of Vaccination for Enterotoxic E-Coli
The enterotoxicenic E-coli is a hugely important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. There are some candidates in trials that seem promising, but nothing so far is licensed. About 10 to 20% of cases can actually end up in what's called like a secondary attack where people pass on that 0157 or that E-hex strain to somebody else in a daycare facility,. changing diapers, nursing homes, etc. The other big type of E- coli is the Europathogenic E-colI; 80% of all UTIs are caused by these.
