The easy way to remember it is that the word amid has an eye, the word ester does not have any eye. Commonly used amids are lidocaine, mepivocaine, prylocaine and bupivOCaine,. Also ettiticane and ropivocain and levobupivocaine. Commonlyused esters include cocaine, prokaine, tetra cane, chloroprokaine and benzicane.
