The Snake's Gaze
There's an assumption about foreignness and what it means to be foreign in the way this snake is quite lightheartedly rendered. So one of the things we do with critical reading is try to recognize the gaze which hides within the book itself. Another moment that I really want us to offer a critical lens on are the descriptions of Dudley, right? Like, as a beach ball and a wig and all of these just, like, negative stereotypes about bigger bodies.
