The spiritual disciplines are the means of God's grace for setting us free in so many ways. If you see people doing spiritual disciplines with drudgery, something's drastically wrong. The joy of the Lord is such a central marker of a right use of the spiritual disciplines. We don't try to be loving. We undertake these tasks. And God takes these things and works in us realities that we don't possess.
