The Role of Public Confession in Religious Trauma
Public confession is a ripe planting ground for coercion and exploitation. It's not something that everybody will have practice, but I think it plays the same role or is intended to play the same roles as testimony. But when we get to the notion of public confessions they're rarely if ever truly redemptive.
