The Torot of the Margate

Maimonides visited the Margate in Lithuania around 1770. His first reaction to Hasidism is just enthusiasm. He likes especially their teachings of Bittulayesh or what he calls annihilation of the self so that you can merge or submerge in God. In some sense the notion of Akosmism which Maimon will later develop and introduce into German idealism is taken from the Margate, taken from the court of the Margate.
