The Icon of the Invisible God
Christianity, it seems to me, is unique in this claim, that the ordinary goal is to become God's friend. Jesus' own words: I no longer call you servants, but friends. That is the still breathtaking, ordinary goal of the Christian life. Why does it even matter whether we know Jesus personally? He doesn't appear in the realm of conditioned things. If something appears, well, then it's a creaturely conditioned object.
