The Overprotectiveness of Parenting

I'm quite interested in looking on often heights take on this and the idea of children not actually being given the freedom to make mistakes to fail. There's an overprotective thing going on with parenting that you know you don't allow your child to fail. You end up with really quite an entitled generation who don't know how to cope when they go out into the wider world. I wonder whether it's more of a kind of societal change. And if some of the coddling of the parenting trends, maybe that coddling is a reaction to the fact that there's something too cut off early in life. Maybe both parent and child are longing to have that connection back.
