The Importance of Free Planned Response
I shoot an episode in my head and as a script of all, so does the kind of recording in my head. We're always looking for frailty, for vulnerability, for anything that will illuminate and expand the moment really. And then you're asking a lot of actors because you're asking really a lot of kind of improv or improv reaction. How much of that is free planned? So for example, in the funeral, Ewan's giving his eulogy and at some stage the camera goes in on his hand. Is that story-budded? Or is that just going with what the actor does and noticing it? 80% of the latter really.
