Piera's mother died when she was 12 years old. She and her brother had to take care of themselves as a single parent. Pria worked hard at school, but didn't get the support that other students did. A community co-ordinator encouraged her to focus on what she wanted after high school. After graduating from university, she went back to work in Japanese education. Her advice: 'Stick with it'
