This question of having worked with some one before is an interesting one. Is related to a thing that i rely really heavily on, in interviewing witch's references. What you can learn in an hour in an interview completely pales in comparison to a trusted reference. I've hired another individual, jeff hull three times, twice at amazon and once at bulle proof. But still, he went through, he was sweating writing of the interviews at buller proof. Oit was o he had a past because he had worked for me before. He still had to nail those interviews and be like os hewrihte, for this team, for this company, for this role.
