Managing server technologies really is an absolute pain in the butt. I don't love vendor lock-in but on a certain level there are certain services that I think are like no brainers that you should use. My flip side to my own argument here against managed services is it's really hard to do unit testing or anything in a manner that allows you to check this stuff because the tooling just isn't great for it. The problem with cloud storage blob storage is though that's different than what you have running code in the cloud.
