Is the Black Hole Changing the Structure of a Star?

We believe that this is kind of orbiting around the black hole, but we don't expect it actually to be able to make more than one orbit. It's a planet size, let's say mass-wise, whereas stars are hundreds or thousands or even more times this mass. And since this is not massive, it gets the influence of the black hole in a very different way. Its structure itself is changed by the black hole. So if it's much lighter than one of those stars, it's presumably not a shredded star in its own right. Or if it is, it's left something else behind somewhere.
