The Power of Near-Term Thinking

The average CEO isn't around for the length of our holding period. Most of the businesses in our portfolio, we're either in the second or third iteration of management. It can be challenging when someone you know well and trust retires and somebody new comes along that's different. We kind of have to re-underwrite the marriage. The last piece would be the reinvestment runway. And you see this a lot where businesses really cannot reinvest the free cash flow that they're generating at the same rates of return on past investments.
