When I first read it 21 years ago, which is that growing up, I had an imaginary friend when I was a child and I could see her in vivid living color. When I first drank the hallucinogenic brew ayahuasca, the way the visions bloomed in my mind's eye was exactly how I had experienced Peti. So it felt like kind of this lost continent of the departed gods like was brought back. It might also be the voices or the visual hallucinations in psychedelic states, or even just the kind of intuitive guidance that comes up in those states.
