Annie Albers and Joseph Albers

Annie and Joseph Albers worked together for nearly two decades at Black Mountain College in North Carolina. The Bauhaus, due to a number of factors, began experiencing a number of difficulties mostly stemming from political pressures. After Hitler was named Chancellor in 1933, the Nazis pressured the Bauhaus to fall in line with party beliefs. But instead of cowtowing to the party's demands, Bauhaus officials and instructors voted to shut down the school entirely.
