In 1981, Nehru was hailed as the single richest country in the world on a per capita basis. By 1980, an epidemiologist declared Nehru to have an obesity epidemic. The underlying factors were increased wealth and poor food choices. Most meals consist of instant noodles, white rice, anything out of a can, and soda. Tobacco and binge drinking are also common.
