The African Grove Theatre Company

The African Grove Theatre Company was founded by William Brown in the mid-19th century. The theatre is thought to have produced Ira Aldridge, who went on to become one of Europe's most famous black actors. Shane White: "Ira Aldridge had the best education that Black could have" He says he started acting very early and his first known role was Romeo and Juliet.
